The Legacy

Rise From
the Ashes

Black Bottom was Detroit's oldest African-American neighborhood, named by early settlers for the dark, fertile river-bottom soil. A hub of Black-owned business and a nationally known music scene, it raised champions before it was razed by eminent domain.

Named after the neighborhood that bred Joe Louis and Sugar Ray Robinson. Upholding legacy is in the soul of our team.

We carry that name forward. The block that made champions is making them again, and everyone who trains here earns a place in that story.

The House

The Code

The rules that make a fighter make a life. The ones we hold to, and do not bend on.

  1. Discipline

Motivation is a liar. Discipline is doing it anyway, on the days you feel nothing, until the work becomes who you are.

  2. Adaptability

The plan is not sacred. See what is actually in front of you, drop what has stopped working, and meet the moment as it is.

  3. Balance

Hold your center. Body, mind, and heart tip together, so steadiness is a discipline, not a mood.

  4. Timing

Patience and nerve are the same virtue. Know when to move, when to wait, and hold the discipline to tell them apart.

  5. Focus

Give this round everything. The past is spent, the future has not come, and all you ever truly hold is what is in front of you now.

  6. Control

You cannot choose what happens. You can always choose your response. Master that, and pressure loses its grip.

  7. Resilience

You will get knocked down, and it will hurt. Rise anyway. The wound is not the story; what you do wounded is.

  8. Respect

Honor the people beside you and across from you. A person is measured by how they treat the ones they could get away with disrespecting.

  9. Preparation

Win it before it starts. Do the quiet, unseen work now, so that when it matters you are not hoping. You are ready.

  10. Patience

Nothing worthy comes fast. Plant the work, trust the ground, and do not dig it up to check. Growth answers to time, not to you.

  11. Mindset

The mind breaks before the body does. Decide who you are before the moment tests you, and refuse to renegotiate under pressure.

  12. Humility

Stay a student to the end. The day you believe you have arrived, you stop growing and start dying. Ego is the enemy.

  13. Accountability

Own all of it: the wins, the losses, and the excuses you were tempted to make. Blame is comfortable, and it keeps you small.
